This 19-year-old talented lad from Ahmedabad impressed the viewers and won over fans heart when he opened India’s Raw Star with the song ‘Kabhi Jo Badal Barse’. Yes I am talking about the new sensation in town Darshan Raval, who has not just impressed the fans but also the show judge and mentor Yo Yo Honey Singh. There is something about Darshan’s voice that when you hear him sing, it just touches your heart and well you truly get lost in another world! This isn’t just us who is saying it but all his fans too who flooded us with questions for their Raw Star. So here Darshan responds to the questions by his fans. Who do you think is your biggest competition in India’s Raw Star?
In Raw Star house there are 9 artists other than me and they are all of different genre of singing, so really I can’t compete with anyone of them. My singing style is totally different and they all are totally different and talented. My competition is with myself, I compete with my own performance, whatever I have performed last time I just have to do better than that.
How did you spent your first salary?
I went for a competition, I remember there I was given a topic to speak on which was, if I was a girl, I said if I was a girl toh mai bilkul apni mom jaise hota! So I won a prize and it was some 1500 bucks, so I remember buying some earrings and gift for my mom.
Tell us about the best thing that has happened to you in your life?
Talking about the best thing, I will say it’s music! The day I told dad ki muje music hi banana hai and nothing else that has to be the best part because after that my life changed.
Who is your inspiration?
My musical inspiration is John Mayer and James Blunt.
Who is your role model? What inspired you to become a singer?
My role model is my father because unhone hi muje sab kuch sikhaya hai how honest you have to be with your work, your passion. To answer the second part of the question, I believe there are two types of people, ek wo hote hai jinke andar music hota hai and dusre wo hote hai jinko music dhoondhta hai! For me I was in Gurukul, kabhi koi door door tak thoughts nahi they music se related. My dad was a writer but I had never thought about music ever in my life, but mere waha riyaaz and sab kuch hota tha toh mai jakar baith jata tha, muje waha pe ek trance mil jata tha. So that bonding with music started from there. I started listening to good music, I started writing too, so that was the time that actually changed everything aur waha se meri bonding shuru ho gayi music ke sath!
Is Arijit Singh your role model as you always sing his songs?
(Laughs) I have been asked this question a lot of time that whether he is my role model and all that but nothing like that, it’s just that we both have somewhat similar vocal texture. My singing technique is different, it’s just that I use his compositions, jaise if you check from bollywood is waqt sabse ache composition unke hi hai. All his songs are amazing and beautiful, his compositions is what I like so that’s the reason I pick mostly his songs.
Why don’t you interact much with your fans on Twitter?
Well I am really sorry first of all, but I try my best to reply to everyone but right now I get so many messages that it actually gets difficult to reply to everyone, also I have a very tight schedule. I am also doing Veera serial where I am composing and also Raw Star. So it’s like whole day I am rehearsing for Raw Star and then at night I have to work for Veera, so it’s like I am working day and night so jitna time hota hai I try to respond to all the messages and rest I sleep.
Would you share any funny incident that happened in the Raw Star Villa?
Yeah it was during the 4th episode jiske promos have started coming, so after my performance all the girls came on stage and muje pure stage pe gira diya! It was actually very funny at that time.
If given a chance for which actor you would like to sing?
Yes I have thought of many actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Akshay kumar and obviously Arjun Kapoor!
As you are from Ahmedabad, which is your favourite hangout and also your favourite gujarati food?
I just love everything about Ahmedabad, every place I visit, it’s like my favourite place but there is one place Sarkhej Roza, my friend told me about this place so I started visiting regularly, I used to go there with my guitar and compose there. You would actually see that place in mostly all my videos. I have involved that place in many of my videos, so this is one place which is very close to my heart. Aur khane ka toh aisa hai jab bhi bhook lage Manek Chowk jao, kuch bhi kha lo acha hi lagta hai! I just love everything about gujarati food. There used to be a time when I had back to back shows for about 4-5 days, I used to travel a lot to Delhi and Nagpur, so while coming back I used to call mom ki muje khichdi khani hai bas! She used to be like no I can make something else but I used to say nahi muje sirf khichdi khana hai so she used to laugh and still make it for me. So this is what my eating habits are.
If you get a chance to release a video song featuring any Bollywood actress, who would that be?
I will pick Alia Bhatt because we are somewhat of same age group and also she is very cute, so cute cute match ho jayega (laughs) so yeah I would pick her if given a chance!
How do you feel when your fans call them #DarshanFamily?
I feel good, actually very good. I always say that with the term fans, there is always a limitation but the way people are treating me, I don’t think they are doing all this as a fan. It’s more like a family because no one but your family support you this much. So I really love #DarshanFamily.
